When it comes to maintaining energy, mental focus, dexterity and strength in extreme situations, proper hydration is a must. If your mission calls for a full day of activity, it makes sense to not only drink more water but also mix in the occasional salty or powerbar-type snack.

Drink More Often
How much water should you drink? It is recommended that a soldier or police officer exerting moderate energy in 80-degree weather should drink 1 liter of water per hour. Keep in mind that your body absorbs water better in more frequent, smaller doses of hydration so it's best to take a few sips every 10 minutes. Body armor can contribute another 5 degrees to the outside temperature. Chemical gear can add as much as another 10 degrees to the external conditions.
